*UPDATED* January 22, 2015

As of October 2014, My new favorite is Kera Care. I have been using this line on my hair and my daughters hair. It's very expensive but it has done the best job on both of our hair so far. I'll be using this for a while.

As of January 2015 I have also added Tycle Black Flat Iron Spray Heat Protector to my current favorite product list. I use this when I flat iron our hair. It's amazing!

I still recommed TRESemme and As I Am products. I've just found Kera Care and happen to love them much more!!

I haven't used Just for Me moisturizing lotion in quite a while, but it was great when we did! Same for the Vitamin Oils by Mega Care.

I replaced the Fantasia Heat Protectant Serum with Kera Care's Creme Press for when I blow dry and Tycle Black Flat Iron spray for when I flat iron. I will provide more information on all of my new products that I LOVE soon!

    1. you can see pictures of her hair from baby to present on the Brown Girls Hair History tab above. Her hair was not long and thick at birth. It was short and fine. Her hair grew over time with patience. I credit not over washing and keeping it in braids a lot. Just make sure that the braids are not too tight.

  4. thank you...i have really thin hair as well and i am trying to grow it out...what do you recommend for not having to wash it everyday...if i don't wash mine everyday it becomes greasy by the middle of the second day so i have to put it up in a knot bun and im trying to find a way to get around that because it's causing a lot of breakage now

    1. Hi there! You may have to wash your hair every other day if you have oily hair/scalp. I recommend instead of using shampoo, use conditioner to wash your hair, that's called Co-wash. You can start there and hopefully this will help.

  5. Thank you for all of your advice. Does your daughter scalp get dry in between hair styles if so you do you take it down and re moisturize it. My daughters hair gets really really really dry. I can use half a bottle of the vitamin e oil and the next day her scalp and hair is right back dry. So I have to take her hair down and re moisturize.n I dont want to do her hair every day but it seems like hair hair loves moisture.

    1. You may need to try another product that will keep her hair moisturized for a longer period of time. I know taking it down everyday is very tiring.

  6. Do you ever press her hair with a hot comb? What are your thoughts about pressing little girls' hair?

  7. I have had her hair pressed once when she was about 5. I didn't like the way her hair felt. I didn't like how it thinned her hair out. It was a bit too straight for me. I am not against little girls getting their hair pressed. I just didn't like it for my daughter's hair. I do think that using direct heat should be done sparingly because too much heat can be very damaging in the long run.

  8. what's your take on rubber bands for little girls hairs

    1. I have always used rubber bands. The rubber bands aren't the problem. It's how they are being used. You can't put them on too tight, you can't leave them in too long, and you have to cut them out, not pull them out. I've never had a problem with them.

  9. Hello- I have a two and a half biracial child. Her hair is very thick and she has curly ringlets. When is it ok to use regular products in her hair and if you have any products that you think I can use now on her hair. Her hair is very dry. I want to be able to leave her hair down sometimes but by the end of the day it's looking a mess and dry. Any suggestions?

  10. Hello, I just found your site today and I am so glad that I did. I have been on many sites and yours provides me with the information I need to know. I especially like the product sections, those are products that I can find locally. I was wondering about the texture of your brown girls hair, meaning in the pictures it looks straight, especially when her hair is pulled back into different styles. At this point are you blow drying her hair? I read in your previous tab that you did not start that until she was 5 I think but are you still doing that now? I truly appreciate you taking the time to share this information. Like you wrote after much expense, I am still looking for those hair products that benefit my 3 year old "brown girl."

    1. I'm so glad you found us! The styles where you see her hair straight, it has been blow dried on warm. Her hair is very thick and kinky. I'm not sure of the hair type because I find that very confusing. Finding the right products for your daughters hair maybe one of your biggest challenges, I know it's been mine. Keep us posted on your progress and thanks for commenting.

    3. Mega care is good but the best thing that I have found for my daughters dry hair has been Kera Care overnight cream. It says to use it at night before bed but hair doesn't know what time of day it is. I use it when ever her hair needs it and it works wonders.
