*Tips to Remember*
Moisturize the hair and scalp as you go.
Don't put the rubber bands in too tight.
When you are ready to take them out, cut them out. Don't pull.

How to Make a Loon Bracelet Video

This is Brown Girls 1st official tutorial. She decided that she wanted to do this all by herself! I certainly couldn't help her walk through this one because I still don't know how to make this bracelet! This is her thang! LOL

It was fun directing the video though......she's truly a star in the making!

Items Needed:

Loon Bands
2 Pencils or Pens
Charms (optional)
Tape Measure

Before you begin, measure your wrist (for bracelet) and/or finger (for ring) so that you will know how long to make the bracelet/ring. You don't want it to be too small (tight) or too big (loose).

1. Place pencils side by side.
2. Add 2 loon bands to both of the pencils. See picture below.

3. Take the band on the bottom of the left pencil and wrap it around the left pencil to the middle.
4. Take the band on the bottom of the right pencil and wrap it around the right pencil to the middle.
5. Add one rubber band and repeat steps 3 & 4.
6. Repeat step 5 until the bracelet is the size of your desire.
7. Add closure that is included in the loon band package.

ALL Done!!

Do the same steps for a ring!

How To Use Annie Spiral Rods Tutorial

This is a quick tutorial on how to use Annie Spiral Hair Rods. I show how to use them in both directions. The white rods spiral to the left and the blue rods spiral to the right.

I had to do them a couple of times to get adjusted to using them. It seems hard at first, but after a little practice, they are easy to use. Doing this video was my first time using them, that lets you know how fast you can catch on.

Use these on wet hair. I washed and conditioned her hair first. Then I added lotta body setting lotion mixed with water in a spray bottle to her hair. Then I added Shine hair polisher instant repair and put the rollers in her hair. 

**One tip to remember, you have to use the right amount of hair for them to work smoothly. You can't use a large amount of hair in each roller. It has to be a small section of hair.

I love the results and plan to do her whole head with them soon!

How to Make Beaded Ponytail Holders

DIY Ponytail Holders

You can make this easy hair accessory in about 10 minutes.

Items you will need:

scissors

elastic thread

measuring tape

ponytail holders

beads of your choice

Cut 3 pieces of thread in the following lengths: 5', 6', and 7' respectively.

Take the 5' thread and tie it to the ponytail holder in a knot.

Add beads to the thread. I added about 8 beads. Alternate the shapes and colors as you desire.

Tie and knot to the last bead to hold it in place. 

Repeat the same steps for the 6' and 7' inch pieces of thread. Make sure you space out the thread on the ponytail holders. (Don't put them too close together.)

I added about 12 beads to the 6' thread and 15 beads to the 7' thread.

Whoa La! Now you have your own designed ponytail holders!

There're so many ways you can mix up this hairstyle to change it up and make it fun every time you do it. The next time that I do it, I'm going to braid the back to the side to go into the pontyail! This is one that you can have a lot of fun with!

Another thing that I like about this hairstyle is that it's great for tweens (ages 8-12) and teens. It's perfect for the little girl (like mine), that's in that transitioning stage from being a little girl to a  big girl, but not quite a teenager.

Cute Natural Pony Tail with a Twist!

First, part the hair as above to make 3 sections. The two sections in the front will be pony tails.

Now you are going to make the part for your cornrows. Go along the outline of the part that's already there for the pony tail and work your way around the head as below. Do the same thing for both sides.

Next, include the cornrows in the pony tail like the picture above. If her hair isn't long enough to go into the pony tail, use a barrette or the like to clamp the braids in place.

Washing, Conditioning, and Blow Drying Natural Hair!

**Updated Nov.2012**Below is the most recent method that I am using to detangle Brown Girls Hair. I no longer use most of the products in this video. The only product that I still use is the Fantasia heat protector.

Detangling

Detangling has to be the most important part of washing her hair. If it's not detangled properly, it will be very difficult to do anything else. At this young age, it shouldn't be too difficult to do, but it will require time and patience. 

Detangling Thick Hair
If your daughter has very thick hair, like mine, BEFORE washing, I would first separate her hair into four sections, two in the front and two in the back. Make sure you comb through each section to make sure there are no knots, tangles,etc. Then,do 3 strand plaits each section. Make sure the plaits are loose so that you can wash her scalp good. See this video for a tutorial. (The beginning of the video shows her hair in the plaits and how I detangle.) 

Wash and condition her hair with the plaits in it. Now you can take down each section and add your leave in moisturizer or whatever product you want to use while her hair is wet. First, use you fingers to get out any tangles that may be in her hair. It should be very few. Then you can run the detangling comb straight through her hair. The easiest detangling method ever!

Detangling Thin Hair
Wash and Condition hair. Run your fingers through her hair while the conditioner is still in it to get as many tanlges out as you can with your fingers. Then use a detangling comb while the conditioner is in her hair to comb through it. 

If you are using leave in conditioner, go ahead and style as desired. If you need to rinse, do so, then add your moisturizer and style as desired.
