Natural Hair Bun & Bow Updo Tutorial

This hairstyle was inspired by a picture I saw on Pintrest below. You can go to the website of the original tutorial HERE. I left out the plait that goes around the bun because I like the style without it.

SUPPLIES NEEDED FOR THIS HAIRSTYLE:

Ponytail Holder
Sock Bun/Hair Donut
Bobby Pins

INSTRUCTIONS:

1. Put hair in a high ponytail.

2. Put hair into bun leaving the excess hair hanging in the front, back, or on the side based on where you want the bow to be. If your child has short hair, use a small bun. She can rock this too!

3. Separate the hanging hair into 3 sections. The 2 sections on the sides should be thick and equal in size. The section in the middle should be smaller than the 2 sections.

4. Using your fingers as rollers, roll the left section of hair around your fingers forming the left side of the bow. Pin it into place with your bobby pins.

5. Do the same thing with the right section that you did above with the left section.

6. 3 strand plait the middle section then roll it around itself to look like a flower in the middle.

7. Add hair accessory to the middle of the flower and/or around the bun, if desired.

ALL DONE!

This style is perfect for a flower girl or any special occasion.

Lately, I've had a lot of people asking me about hair care for their baby. It's such a joy and a blessing to give birth to a beautiful healthy baby! There is so much to celebrate, yet so much to do. Giving birth is over now it's time for the real work, being a Mom!

If you are a first time Mom, you are happy but now that the baby is here, you may have tons of questions on what to do? You worry about doing all the right things because you want the very best for your bundle of joy!

Well let me tell you, hair should be the least of your concerns with your newborn. Yes, you should wash and care for your babies hair to avoid cradle cap etc, but you shouldn't be overwhelming yourself with too much concern over your babies hair.

Why? because your baby is changing and growing so fast, I think you should be enjoying those moments. The first smile, the first time they say mommy or daddy, you know all of those milestones that they have in the first year of life.

Your babies hair is going to change just like everything else during the first few years. You don't yet know the hair type of your baby because the "real" hair isn't there yet. Yes, it may fall out, yes it's common for babies to get bald spots in the back where they lay on it. Don't worry about that, it will grow back. I promise! :)

Her Body is Changing and So is Her Hair.......

My daughter will be 9 next month and her body has changed a lot over the past year. Not only did I have to start buying her training bra's (Lord help us), she has grown from a size 8 to a size 14 in 9 months. With the fast changes of her body, her hair has changed too.

I'm back to the stage of figuring out her hair again. It constantly stays dry....no matter what I do. I moisturize, I seal, I co-wash.....what the heck is going on??? Her hair growth has slowed down too. Now I'm back to the drawing board of trying to figure out what's going to work for this new stage that her hair is in.

I'm an totally up for suggestions and ideas especially if you have or have had a daughter to go through a similar phase.

Back to the drawing board...........I need help!!

8 Cornrows + 5 Bantu Knots Hairstyle

I am a true believer that minimal manipulation on my child’s hair is beneficial to keeping her hair healthy which aids in length retention and growth. There are several other options for this hairstyle that you can do to make it last for at least 3 days.

Day #1- Wear it as it is in the video for a day or two.

Day#2- Take the bantu knots down and remove the twist and let it hang.

Day#3- Take the ponytails down and make cornrows going straight back. This can be worn for a couple of days.

This hairstyle can easily be worn for a week if you do all of the options listed.

These pictures were taken after a loonng day of play. It rained the entire week and day of the 4th of July where we live so her hair did survive a humid wet day.
