Fighting Childhood Cancer 5K Walk/Run

This past Saturday, my daughter and I were able to attend the Hailey Bankhead Foundation 5K Run/Walk that supports the fight against childhood cancer. My original post about the event shared the story of Hailey Bankhead, who is a cancer survivor, and also shared pictures of when my husband and I first met her and her lovely family.

My daughter wasn't at the event when we met Hailey, so she was very excited and eager to met her at the 3rd Annual 5K Run/Walk that we attended. First, let me say that it was an honor to be able to be support an organization that is about supporting children and families that are faced with and fighting through this terrible disease.

Hundreds of supporters showed up to run and walk including the Clayton County Police and Fire Department. There were bouncy houses, vendors, and plenty of food for everyone to eat. They even had health screenings and live entertainment.

Although it was literally freezing that day, we all had a great time! Here are a few pictures that I was able to snap. Some of them I grabbed from the Hailey Foundation Facebook page!

Together WE are fighting childhood cancer!! Join Us

A couple of years ago, I was invited to one of my co-workers (who has also become a dear friend) birthday celebration that was a paint party. At the party, my husband and I met a cool couple who brought their beautiful daughter with them. Her name is Hailey. At the time, she was battling cancer. All of her hair was gone, but her spirit was so happy and sweet! As a result of her battle and her family's struggle, The Hailey Bankhead Foundation was born.

The Hailey Bankhead Foundation is an organization founded from one mother's love for her child facing childhood cancer and a need to find a sense of purpose and a desire to ease the pain and to serve other families facing childhood cancers.

Since the paint party, we have been able to watch Hailey bloom and also attend their First Annual formal dinner and auction fund raiser last year. The time has come again for the 3rd Annual 5K run, walk, and fun!! This will be our first year participating and we would love to meet you there too!

Happy New Year Girlies!!

I know that we are on day 6 of 2015, but since I haven't blogged since last year, I wanted to wish you all a Happy New Year!

I haven't posted a new hairstyle in a few weeks because 1. I planned to take a little time off to spend with my family. AND 2. My daughter caught a really bad cold over the Christmas/New Year break so I didn't want her to have to deal with me doing hair and stuff. Plus her hair really needs to be washed bad and I didn't want to make her cold worse by washing it while she's sick.

I plan to wash it this weekend, IF and only IF, she isn't coughing anymore and I'm going to flat iron it so that she can get a trim. I haven't used any heat on her hair since Sept of last year so I will be looking forward to seeing how much growth we have achieved. I can tell it has grown out some.

I also wanted to let you know that I have started a NEW channel called Brown Girls Style! It took a lot of prayer for me to make the decision, but I wanted to keep Brown Girls Hair strictly dedicated to hair, but we also want to share our fashion, beauty, and a bit of our life stuff and I didn't want it to get lost on the hair channel so I went ahead and started a new channel.

For now, the new channel will show Tween fashion as well as beauty tips and just fun stuff with me and my daughter. I may even include some of our other family members from time to time.

Currently, I am doing a Grow Your Nails With Me Series since I have received tons of questions and request for videos on my nails, I'm doing that on our other channel. Check them out when you get a chance if you are interested in growing your natural nails.

I also plan to redo this blog really soon. I think I have chatted enough! I'll see you tomorrow! And be sure to follow our Brown Girl Style Instagram and subscribe to the channel too!

Thanks so much for your support!!

Brown Girl Update *Guss*

Brown Girls Hair *Guss*

If you follow us on Facebook and Instagram, you know that my daughter's dog, Guss, died on Monday. We have had this dog all of her life.

I just wanted to thank all of you who sent kind remarks and sentiments during her time of sadness. I also want to let you know that she is doing fine. She took it like a pro. All of us were very surprised at how well she took the news.

She's already talking about getting another Jack Russell and naming him Guss Jr. or Lil' Guss! Thanks again for your support and have an awesome HUMP DAY!
