Mixed Chicks Product Review

Mixed Chicks is marketed  more towards bi-racial children. There product claims to get rid of frizz and define curls.

Although Brown Girl is NOT biracial, I wanted to give their product line a try simply because I like the deep conditioner.

**The opinions stated below are solely mine. I purchased the shampoo and leave-in conditioner with my own money. However, the deep conditioner was sent to me, at my request, from Wendy of Mixed Chicks to try and review. I have not been paid in anyway to do this product review.**

Watch me use the products on the video below!
Availability/Price: I purchased the 8oz. shampoo from a local Target for $12.99.
Ease of use: The use of the product was great. The pump made it easy to access the shampoo.
How does it smell? It has a very light and pleasant sent perfect for kids, it's a soft fruity kinda scent.
Does a little go a long way? No. I used 1/3 of the bottle to get full coverage on my daughters thick hair. That maybe different for a child with fine or thin hair.
Effectiveness: This shampoo got her hair super clean with one wash, but it did make her hair feel very dry.
What I like about it? I love that it is all natural with no sulfates and that it doubles as bath wash too!
Would I purchase this again? Yes. I was satisfied with how clean it got my daughters hair and scalp. Because I don't wash my daughters hair often, I can probably make one bottle last for at least 6 months. I also like that it's all natural. That gives me an assurance that no harsh chemicals are being used in my daughters hair. I don't mind paying extra for that!

Availability/Price: I purchased the 8oz leave-in conditioner from a local Target for $12.99.
Ease of use: The use of the product was great. The pump made it easy to access the conditioner.
How does it smell? I almost couldn't smell it. It's a very light and soft scent.
Does a little go a long way? Yes. It didn't take a lot of product to cover all of my daughters hair.
Effectiveness: This conditioner did make my daughters hair soft and added back moisture after the shampoo totally dried it out. However, it did not define her curls.
What I like about it?  I love that it is alcohol and paraben free!
Would I purchase this again? No. Simply because my daughter doesn't wear a wash and go so there is really no need for the leave-in conditioner to rid her hair of frizz or to define her curls. Her hair type (3a-4a), didn't respond to this product in a wash and go kind of way. I would purchase the conditioner instead.

Availability/Price: This product was sponsored by Wendy of Mixed Chicks. The 8oz jar sells for $10.99.
Ease of use: The use of the product was ok. I didn't like that I had to use my fingers to scoop the product out of the jar. A squeeze bottle would be perfect!
How does it smell? I love the way it smells. It has a nice tropical scent. It smells really good. I could still smell this in my daughters hair many weeks after using it.
Does a little go a long way? Yes, I love that it didn't take much for Brown Girl's or my hair to get coverage.
Effectiveness: I loved the way it made Brown Girl's and my hair very soft and deep conditioned.
What I like about it? EVERYTHING except the jar!
Would I purchase this again? Yes. This is a must have in my hair product stash.

Final Words: Overall, I really like the Mixed Chicks products that I have used so far. Although we are not mixed, I found their products to be suitable for our hair types as well. I am looking forward to trying other products in the adult line on my hair. I can't wait to try the adult leave-in conditioner on my hair this summer for my wash and go. Check back to get my review on that soon!

I also want to let the men in my life try the line for men called HIS Mix (sense they helped me use up my deep conditioner:)!

Natural Braids Alicia Keys Remix {Tutorial}

Perfect Hairstyle for Tweens (ages 8-12)

braids for kids, cornrows, cute hairstyles for girls
Brown Girls Hair

There're so many ways you can mix up this hairstyle to change it up and make it fun every time you do it. The next time that I do it, I'm going to braid the back to the side to go into the pontyail! This is one that you can have a lot of fun with!

Another thing that I like about this hairstyle is that it's great for tweens (ages 8-12) and teens. It's perfect for the little girl (like mine), that's in that transitioning stage from being a little girl to a  big girl, but not quite a teenager.

I hope you enjoy doing it and that your little one wears it well!!

How to Grow Long Hair

There are a few things that I didn't mention in the video that I would like to add:

J When you find what works for you, stick to it!J
Once you finally find out what her hair likes and responds to, stick to it. Don't change up what you are doing just because a new method or a new product comes out. If you see there's a better way, of course, do that. But don't just join the crowd because everybody else is doing it.

J Does my daughter have product build up between washes?J
When I use ONLY the vitamin e oil as her moisturizer, between washes, there is no product build up. It's just dirty. LOL

When I use the Just for Me Moisturizing lotion or the shea butter mixture(that I make myself), there is some product build up, but it's not very heavy and overwhelming.

The products mentioned here is all that I use on her hair between washes and I usually stick to using only one of them(which ever I have available at the time) between each wash.

For example, if I wash her hair today and I use vitamin e oil to moisturize it, I will use only the vitamin e oil as her moisturizer until the next wash. That's how I control product build up...just don't use a lot of product and you shouldn't have build up...just dirt!

If I think of anything else to add to this, I will.....

Just thought of something else...

JA Healthy Scalp is VERY important for a healthy head of hair.J

If you are having issues with your daughters scalp/skin and she has a serious dandruff problem, I suggest you take her to a Dermatologist. I don't have an answer for you on this, but a doctor does.

**Side Note**Massaging the scalp is a great way to promote hair growth too! I didn't (and don't currently) massage my daughters scalp to get her hair where it is today, but I do plan to massage her scalp this summer to see what happens:)!

What is Brown Girls Hair Type??

I've been asked more times than I can count, "What is Brown Girls hair type?" My answer every time has been, "I don't know".

I've seen many different charts and I find the descriptions to be confusing. I know that she is suppose fit into one of the categories, but none of them seem to totally describe her hair. She is like a combination of several of the types. So I just continue to say when asked that question, "I don't know"!

While looking at Bronner Brothers 4 Naturals product line website, (because I will be trying their products soon on MY hair), they have a chart to find your hair type. What I like about their chart is not only does it show the different hair types, it also lists the products suitable for each type. I really like that because it takes the work out of what products to try for a particular hair type.

What I don't like about the chart is I don't know if it's for when the hair is wet or dry? Someone please enlighten me? According to the chart, I guess she is 3C or 4A because they are closest to how her hair looks wet.

I haven't used the line yet to say if I like it or not, but I am willing to give it a try soon(on MY hair). In fact, they are giving away free products for product testers. Read more about that here. I'm going to get my products with this offer!

I'll post a review once I try the products for a couple of months!

OOTW-Apple's Eye Designs

I really love this little dress! Brown Girl picked it out to wear for Mother's Day yesterday. She's at the stage now where she selects her own clothes to wear each day and I must say, she has a great sense of style!

She has been blessed with a Grandmother who can sew and she makes her all kinds of cute outfits, not only for her, but for her dolls too! She has a store on Etsy that you can purchase all of the cute outfits that you will find featured here on each Monday's Outfit of the Week posts.

She loves to twirl!

Her Twin Doll!

The doll was a gift to her when she was 2 years old from her Grandparents. It's a My Twinn doll that is made in the likeness of your child or whoever you purchase it for. You choose the dolls features and they make it for you!

No, I did not comb the dolls hair! She combed her dolls hair to be like hers! Does your daughter like to dress like her doll?

*You can purchase the girls dress here and the dolls dress here!
