Mixtina Product Review

Mixtina was started by a Mom who was having problems finding a product that would not leave her mixed raced (African American/Greek/Irish) daughters curls limp and stripped it of it's natural oils.

Mixtina was created to help mixed, biracial, or multiculturals (which ever title you prefer), have a product that caters to your coily, curly, hair type. It also great for natural African Americans as well as all other hair types.

They currently have 4 products in the line: Wavy Curl Shampoo & Conditioner and Coily Curl Shampoo & Conditioner. The products are All Natural and Sulfate Free. They all come in 8 oz bottles and are $11.99 each.

Mixtina Coily Curl Shampoo

What does it smell like?

It has a soft clean fragrance. It's almost hard for me to describe it. It reminds me of a soft male perfume type smell.

Did it clean her hair? 

Yes! Because it is sulfate free, I thought it wouldn't have much lather, but I was very surprised at how much lather it has. I know that sulfate free shampoo's are so much better, but I find it hard to use them because I still have to get my psychic right when it comes to lather and cleanliness. 

I know that later doesn't equal clean, but I tend to have a hard time reprogramming myself. I love me some bubbles! LOL

How did it leave her hair feeling?

It left her hair feeling very clean and it didn't strip it to the point where it was dry and brittle.

Coily Curl Conditioner

What does it smell like?

It smells just like the shampoo.

Did it have good slippage for detangling?

This leave in offered a very good amount of slippage for detangling. This conditioner can be used as a leave in or rinse out.  I wasn't sure prior to using it if I would leave it in or rinse it out. I made my decision after seeing how her hair reacted to the product.

I decided to leave it in because her hair felt ok with it and it wasn't sticky or icky feeling. I choose to blow dry her hair after leaving the conditioner in. 

How did it leave her hair feeling?

It left her hair feeling slightly soft and lightly moisturized and it had an awesome shine! After leaving it in overnight, I did find that her hair needed additional moisturizer on it to keep it from being dry. Overall, this product did a great job.

Would I Recommend Mixtina to others?

Yes I would. I think Mixtina is a great product for anyone with a hard to tame hair type. It's the best sulfate free shampoo that I have used to date. Although my daughter isn't biracial,  I like it way better than the other biracial products that I have tried. I would recommend it to anyone who is in search of a All natural, sulfate free product line that gets the job done.

Irresistible Me Hair Extensions Review

Brown Girls Hair

Okay! This is my very first time wearing hair extensions and installing them myself. I have worn weave only one other time in my life back in 2010 when I got braids for a cruise.

This is totally out of the box for me. I must admit, I am totally excited about trying it to see how it will look in my hair. It's funny because when I opened the package, I left the hair sitting on the table and my hubby walked by and said, "I know you didn't buy this weave!" LOL!!

This review will give my honest opinion of:

The Quality of the Hair

Irresistible Me has two ranges of clip in hair extensions: Silky Touch and Royal Remy Hair. 

Silky Touch is 100% natural Remy hair. These extensions represent great value for money and can be very easily styled and curled to blend in your hair perfectly.

Royal Remy is top of the line and comes from just one donor with virgin unprocessed hair. Then it's colored to one of the 14 colors available at Irresistible Me. Additionally, a special treatment unique to Irresistible Me is added for extra silkiness and durability. This line is also very easy to blend with your own hair. Ultimately, the Royal Remy hair will last longer and is the closest match you can find to completely unprocessed hair. 

I have the Royal Remy. I must say, I am very pleased with how well it blended in with my natural hair! It is amazing to say the least.

Irresistible Me also carry: Ponytails and Highlights (these are basically Royal Remy quality hair extensions but you get to combine any two colors from the ones available.

The Quantity of Hair

All of the hair extensions (no matter the weight you choose) come in 10 pieces: 1 pc of 4 clips (8"), 2 pcs of 3 clips (6"), 5 pcs of 2 clips (4"), and 2 pcs of 1 clip (1.5').

The weight (100g, 140g, 200g) refers to the total weight of the hair you will order without the clips attached. You can also choose the length that you want from the lengths available: 14 inches, 16 inches, 18 inches, 20 inches, 22 inches, and 24 inches.

I used 16"-200g which was more than enough hair for me! I didn't even use it all.

The thickness of the hair is relative to both the weight and the length you choose. For example, a 14 inch-100g piece will look thicker than 24'-100g so keep that balance in mind. The longer the hair, the bigger the weight should be selected. See video below to help you with the selection process.

Ease of Use

This was my very first time installing any type of clip ins into my hair and I found it super easy to do. It took me less than 20 minutes to put them in. And for the most part, I was able to get it right the first time. Not a lot of trial and error. 

Ease of Styling

Irresistible Me says human clip in extensions can be straightened and blow dried, curled, and heat styled along with your normal hair. But, just as you shouldn't let your ceramic straighteners or hairdryer near your own hair without applying a heat protection spray, you should also be sure to spray your clip ins with a heat treatment spray. This protects the hair from the often 200-300 degree temperatures of modern ceramic straighteners without damaging it.

I found it easy to curl my extensions. I used a flat iron and that made the process more difficult for me. It wasn't the hair that made it hard, just the tool that I was using. The hair curled beautifully. 

My Overall Opinion

I absolutely love the Irresistible Me clip ins. They are beautiful and super easy to use! I would recommend these to every body! I have never been big on weave and clip in hair, but I'm big on these for sure!!

As I Am Product Review

As I Am Products

I purchased all of the products at a local Sally's Beauty Supply Store with my own money. This review is not sponsored by any company.

It is truly my own opinion and experience with these products as all of my product reviews are.

I have used these products on 3 different heads, My Daughters, My Mother's, and Mine. I am going to give you the results of each person's hair while using the products and after the products were used.

All of the products in the As I Am line smell exactly the same!

Coconut CoWash

How I used it: I washed our hair with the cowash just as I would with shampoo.

My Daughters Experience

The cowash cleaned her hair well. It left her hair with a warm fresh coconut scent. Her hair felt soft and well conditioned. It didn't take a lot of product to saturate her hair.

My Mom's Experience
I did not use the cowash on my Mom's hair.

My Experience
The cowash cleaned my hair well. It didn't take a lot of product to saturate my hair. It took less than my daughters of course. I used about 3 to 4 tablespoons full on my whole head.

Would I purchase this again? YES hands down. It works amazingly for us!

Leave In Conditioner

How I used it: I put our hair in 4 sections and applied it to our wet hair section by section. It was easy to tell if I covered an area because it made our hair soft.

My Daughters Experience

It made her hair feel soft. It made detangling very easy.

My Mom's Experience

I did not use the cowash on my Moms hair.

My Experience
The same as my daughters. It made my hair feel really soft and detangling was a breeze.

Would I purchase this again? YES, I am on bottle #2 now because my son used the first one up!

Twist Defining Cream

How I used it: I used this to do a curlformer set and twist out. I applied it after the leave in conditioner on damp hair. Then I brushed it through with a goody vent brush. Then I applied the curlformers for the set or twisted the hair for the twist out style. 

My Daughters Experience

It provided incredible hold to her curls, twist, etc without drying her hair out or flaking. This cream is truly the best holding product that I have used to date. Her curls were soft, bouncy, and shiny! I even found that when I use this on her ponytails and take down her plaits, they are wavy like a braid out! Too cool!

My Mom's Experience

It provided a great hold to my Moms twist out as well. It didn't leave her hair feeling heavy and loaded while holding her twist together.

My Experience

It held my curls as well. I used this on a curlformer set and I was pleased with the shine, softness, and bounce that my curls had. 

Would I purchase this again? YES. This works wonderfully on curl sets, twist and braid outs! This really makes my daughters hair look really shinny. It also adds moisture to. A little product went a long way.

Smoothing Gel

How I used it: I used it both on wet and dry hair to lay down the edges.

My Daughters Experience

When I used it on her dry hair, I found it to flake up once it dried. When I used it on her wet hair to do the curlformer set, there was no flaking and it held well. I have found that this works better on wet hair in small amounts.

My Mom's Experience

I didn't use this on my Mom's hair.

My Experience

I did not use this on my hair because I didn't like the flaking that it produced on my daughters dry hair.

Would I purchase this again? No. I will stick with the eco gel. It's cheaper and does a better job for us.

Double Butter Creme (not pictured)

How I used it: I put it on our curls, twists, etc after they were dry. I used it as a moisturizer as needed on dry hair.

My Daughters Experience
This cream does an excellent job of keep her hair moisturized during the day. I apply it daily on her hair. I have skipped a day at times and her hair is still in good shape. It doesn't take a lot of this cream to get the job done. It's smooth and keeps her hair shiny and moisturized between washes. 

My Mom's Experience

I didn't use this on my Mom's hair.

My Experience

My scalp is naturally oily so I don't normally apply any moisturizer to my hair. I applied a very small amount of this to my curlformer curls and I was pleased. I like that it didn't way my hair down and it didn't make my hair feel oily but it complimented the other products in the line by adding moisture to my curls as the days went by. It did bring life back to my curls once they were 3 days old.  

Would I purchase this again? The verdict is still out on this one. I will have to use it a few more times in different weather conditions to determine if this will be a stay in my hair product arsenal.

Final Thoughts

Overall my hair loves As I Am products. It brought back the bounce and body to my hair that I had in my perm days. I really love that about it. I also like that all of the products smell the same. My hair holds a constant coconut fragrance that is soft and pleasant. Even on wash day our hair still smells good!

It works wonderfully on my daughters hair too! I really love the leave in and the twist defining cream on her hair. I can't wait to do a full twist and braid out with this product on her hair soon.

I also plan to purchase the shampoo and other products that I have not tried in this line.

Mixed Chicks Product Review

Mixed Chicks is marketed  more towards bi-racial children. There product claims to get rid of frizz and define curls.

 Although Brown Girl is NOT biracial, I wanted to give their product line a try simply because I like the deep conditioner. 

**The opinions stated below are solely mine. I purchased the shampoo and leave-in conditioner with my own money. However, the deep conditioner was sent to me, at my request, from Wendy of Mixed Chicks to try and review. I have not been paid in anyway to do this product review.**

Availability/Price: I purchased the 8oz. shampoo from a local Target for $12.99. 

Ease of use: The use of the product was great. The pump made it easy to access the shampoo.

How does it smell? It has a very light and pleasant sent perfect for kids, it's a soft fruity kinda scent.

Does a little go a long way? No. I used 1/3 of the bottle to get full coverage on my daughters thick hair. That maybe different for a child with fine or thin hair.

Effectiveness: This shampoo got her hair super clean with one wash, but it did make her hair feel very dry. 

What I like about it? I love that it is all natural with no sulfates and that it doubles as bath wash too!

Would I purchase this again? Yes. I was satisfied with how clean it got my daughters hair and scalp. Because I don't wash my daughters hair often, I can probably make one bottle last for at least 6 months. I also like that it's all natural. That gives me an assurance that no harsh chemicals are being used in my daughters hair. I don't mind paying extra for that!

Availability/Price: I purchased the 8oz leave-in conditioner from a local Target for $12.99. 

Ease of use: The use of the product was great. The pump made it easy to access the conditioner.

How does it smell? I almost couldn't smell it. It's a very light and soft scent.

Does a little go a long way? Yes. It didn't take a lot of product to cover all of my daughters hair.

Effectiveness: This conditioner did make my daughters hair soft and added back moisture after the shampoo totally dried it out. However, it did not define her curls.

What I like about it?  I love that it is alcohol and paraben free!

Would I purchase this again? No. Simply because my daughter doesn't wear a wash and go so there is really no need for the leave-in conditioner to rid her hair of frizz or to define her curls. Her hair type (3a-4a), didn't respond to this product in a wash and go kind of way. I would purchase the conditioner instead.

Availability/Price: This product was sponsored by Wendy of Mixed Chicks. The 8oz jar sells for $10.99. 

Ease of use: The use of the product was ok. I didn't like that I had to use my fingers to scoop the product out of the jar. A squeeze bottle would be perfect!

How does it smell? I love the way it smells. It has a nice tropical scent. It smells really good. I could still smell this in my daughters hair many weeks after using it.

Does a little go a long way? Yes, I love that it didn't take much for Brown Girl's or my hair to get coverage.

Effectiveness: I loved the way it made Brown Girl's and my hair very soft and deep conditioned.

What I like about it? EVERYTHING except the jar!

Would I purchase this again? Yes. This is a must have in my hair product stash.

Final Words: Overall, I really like the Mixed Chicks products that I have used so far. Although we are not mixed, I found their products to be suitable for our hair types as well. I am looking forward to trying other products in the adult line on my hair. I can't wait to try the adult leave-in conditioner on my hair this summer for my wash and go. Smooth N Shine Mousse Review

Yesterday, a lady stopped me and asked me what did I use on my hair to make it so shiny? I thought to myself, is my hair shinning? LOL Then, I told her that I use water and mousse. She was rushing to catch the bus so I didn't have time to elaborate. Today, I thought maybe that's something that I should share with my blog readers. 

I know I mostly post what's going on with my daughter's hair, but today, I thought I would share with you what I've been doing to my hair all summer! This post won't take long at all because I've been rocking a boring ponytail all summer long that looks like this:

I've been waking up every morning using my spray bottle (filled with warm water), shine mousse, and my brush. This is the style that I've been embracing all summer. My hubby told me he's tried of looking at this ponytail so I'll be making a change really soon!

I really like the mousse because it holds my curly hair down without making it hard and it does give it a nice shine too. Here are a few shots of how it looks hanging.

My Review of the shampoo/body wash- We love it! Although we know lather doesn't clean, we like the fact that it lathers up really well and also did an excellent job cleaning her hair! Brown Girl really liked that it didn't burn her eyes when I accidentally got some of the shampoo in them. We also used it as a body wash. Brown Girl said, ummm this smells good. She liked the way her skin smelled after washing with it! I like that it is really gentle and maintained the softness of her skin.

• Leave-In Conditioner / Daily Moisturizer - Designed for use immediately after shampooing to improve manageability and for use every day as a light, non-greasy, and gentle moisturizer. Jojoba oil and Shea butter leave hair feeling noticeably soft.

My review of the leave in-conditioner/moisturizer- We love it too! I washed her hair, then I added the leave in-conditioner to her wet hair. It immediately made her hair soft and moist. it was so easy to detangle after adding it.  I really like that a little goes a long way with both the shampoo and leave in conditioner.

• Moisturizing Hair Mist – Imparts a light shine to the hair while also improving manageability. Jojoba oil increases moisture, while sweet almond oil leaves behind a light, healthy shine without any greasy residue.

My review of the moisturizing hair mist- It does just what they claim. I was actually twisting my daughters hair while wet for the first time and I am very pleased with these products. While her hair was wet, I divided her hair in small sections in preparation to twist it, I added the leave-in conditioner, I used my wide tooth comb to smooth it in, then I sprayed the hair mist on top and it gave her hair a nice shine. I really don't like grease or a greasy feeling and I love that it moisturized her hair without making it feel greasy or sticky.

• Body Lotion - Moisturizes and soothes delicate skin with an all-natural formula of Shea butter, jojoba oil, vitamin E, and aloe. Clinically tested and allergen-free, this light, non-greasy moisturizer leaves the skin feeling soft, with the delicately sweet scent of an all-natural chamomile fragrance.

My review of the lotion- It is great! Brown Girl likes the way that it smells and it made her skin feel really soft and smooth.

My overall review- This entire product line gets two thumbs up from us. I will be using this exclusively on my daughters hair. I am really pleased that the moisturizing products don't just make her hair feel soft, but they really do moisturize her hair. I have used other moisturizers and while they make her hair feel soft, they still left her hair dry. This one doesn't do that and I love that about it.

Bee Mine Product Review

In my winter care for natural hair post I mentioned that I will be trying Bee Mine products that one of my kind supporters blessed us with. Well, I finally got around to using the complete set on Brown Girls Hair and we love it!

For the first time, I divided her hair into 4 sections and plated each section before I washed it! I wanted to see if I indeed could really get her hair and scalp cleaner by washing it this way. And to my surprise, it was much easier to wash her hair and her scalp came as clean as ever!! I have a sample size of the shampoo and conditioner and I must say, a little of this product went a long way.

It didn't take much shampoo (which is very unusual) to saturate all of her hair. Initially, I thought that it was mostly due to me having her hair plated verses having it all out, but that wasn't the case because when I used it on my natural hair, it didn't take much product either. So I concluded that a little of the shampoo got the job done!

The deep conditioner worked well too! I left it in her hair for a little over 5 minutes and it made her hair feel soft and well conditioned.

I then added the Bee Hold curly butter to her wet hair and started detangling her hair. First with my fingers, then with a super wide tooth comb. (*Side note* I must say upon opening the jar, we love how it smells. We have the Island Mango scent) I didn't notice anything immediately from using the product, but when I started to blow dry her hair, YES, I blow dry her hair on warm. (I do not recommend using heat on a regular basis, but I do blow dry her hair every quarter, 4 times a year) I noticed her hair was very soft.

Once her hair was dry, I added Bee Mine balanced cream moisturizer. While styling her hair, I used vitamin e oil to her scalp and edges.

Vitamin E Oil by Mega Care

I absolutely love this oil. I use it as need to moisturize her scalp and hair. It smells great and gives her hair a beautiful shine! I purchased it for .99 at a beauty supply store. It's usually kept near the check out counter.

Overall, I give the Bee Mine products that I used 2 thumbs up! It is on the pricey side, but in my opinion, it's worth it! By the way, I should mention that my sons and my husband love to use the products too!! (That's good, but then again, with them using it, that means it won't last as long!) I think this is a great natural product line that the whole family can enjoy! If you are interested in trying it, I suggest you order the sample sizes first(which will be more than enough product for you to get a feel for), then if it works for you, go for the larger sizes!

Raw Shea Butter Oil

Hi Girls!

I just left the beauty supply store to pick up some more vitamin e oil because I'm going to braid Brown Girls Hair this weekend. I also decided to try the Shea Butter Oil! I just couldn't resist it!

The Shea Butter Oil doesn't smell as good as the vitamin e oil but I'll let you know how her hair reacts to it! It claims to moisturize dry or damaged hair and that it repairs and protects against weather damage, dryness, and brittleness! We'll see about that! It also says that it's good on the body too! I'll let you know if it gives my legs that baby oil shine!
