The Bead Barrette Review + Giveaway

Jennifer at The Bead Barrette sent us this cool hair accessory for us to try!

Jen with her Bead Barrette's in Walmart

What is it?

It's a barrette that looks like beads! It currently comes in four colors: white, pink, clear, and black.
What we love about it:
  • It saves time.
  • It snaps on like a barrette preventing the need to use numerous small beads, the beading tool, and rubber bands!
  • It's cute and looks just like a stack of beads!
  • It can be worn on braided or loose hair at the bottom or even in the middle of the hair!
This accessory comes in handy to those of you who have toddlers. You don't have to worry about them picking up the small beads and putting them in their mouth, nose, or ears. If your child attends a daycare or a school that doesn't allow beads, this is the perfect solution for that!

If you have nails like me and don't want to chip them or mess up your nail polish, it comes with a utensil that you can use to open it up!

The Bead Barrette

20 barrettes come in each pack + opener and they sell for $2.98 in Walmart! The on-line prices vary so try to find them at Walmart first. If the one near you doesn't have it, ask them for it and purchase it at The Bead Barrette online until they get them!

In this video, Brown Girl shows you her easy and simple night routine. Here are a few night time tips to remember;

1. Keep hair dry while taking a bath with a shower cap.
2. Moisturize hair nightly as needed from the scalp to the ends.
3. Wear a satin or silk bonnet at night to help protect the hair, retain moisture, and to retain the hairstyle.

Brown Girls Hair

I am a true believer that minimal manipulation on my child’s hair is beneficial to keeping her hair healthy which aids in length retention and growth. There are several other options for this hairstyle that you can do to make it last for at least 3 days.

Day #1- Wear it as it is in the video for a day or two.

Day#2- Take the bantu knots down and remove the twist and let it hang.

Day#3- Take the ponytails down and make cornrows going straight back. This can be worn for a couple of days.

This hairstyle can easily be worn for a week if you do all of the options listed.

We transitioned from this hair style to this one!

How I Co-Wash

co wash natural hairstyles black girls
Brown Girls Hair

I have mentioned before how sometimes I may wash my daughters hair with cornrows/braids still in it. A few days ago, that's exactly what I did.

I had just completed a cute hairstyle on her hair and the very next day we went on a family "back to school" picnic. At the picnic, she went swimming. I told her, you can go, but please don't get your hair wet because I just styled it yesterday and you know how you don't like getting your hair washed right? She agreed (for the moment)! LOL

Of course I knew she was going to go back on her word so I already had my mind straight about the more than likely possibility of me having to wash her hair. Once she got in that water and met a few friends it was over. The hair was wet, which meant I had to wash it.

I decided to co-wash her hair for the first time. For those of you who may not know what co-washing is, it's when you wash the hair with conditioner instead of shampoo. I used TRESemme' moisture rich conditioner.

TRESemme' Moisture Rich

I was very bold because this was also my first time in almost 2 years washing her hair without it being in plaits. (I normally put her hair in four sections, plait each section, then wash it with the plaits in it. Doing it that way helps me decrease the amount of tangles and almost eliminates the need to detangle her hair which ultimately saves time and prevents breakage.)

I didn't use a wide tooth comb this time. I used my fingers to detangle her hair. It took me a long time to go through it with my fingers, but it was well worth the time and effort. I am totally pleased with the cleanliness of her hair and how tangle free it was.

She will not be doing anymore water activities this year and her next washing will be in 6-8 weeks. Sooner if needed because she's going to be cheering this year (somebody pray for me)! I love football. I have 3 boys, 2 of them still play the sport, but this cheerleading stuff is not my cup of tea! LOL

Here is the video version of our product review!

Ben over at Gimme Clips sent me a box of goodies to try and I must say, my absolute favorites are the cutter comb, the squeezy beads, and the fillable brush!

1 cutter comb w/50 plastic elastics

Style: Very cute!
Ease of use: Very easy to use!
Comfort: The comb is a good size for it's use. It's not too big or too small which makes it easy to handle while cutting the rubber bands off.
1 fillable brush w/50 plastic elastics

Style: This is a very cute a unique style. I like that it holds rubber bands.
Ease of use: The wide handle makes it easy to grip. The 2 holes in the bottom makes it easy to add a ribbon to it to hang it in the bathroom!
Comfort: N/A

75 squeezy beads

Style: This are very unique because they are soft as opposed to the hard plastic beads.
Ease of use: They are very easy to use and come with a small beading utensil which is used to apply the beads to the hair.
Comfort: My daughter said these were very comfortable while sleeping. Because they are soft rubbery type beads, they don't hurt when you lay on them at night like the hard plastic ones do!
