How to Make a Loon Bracelet Video

Brown Girls Hair

This is Brown Girls 1st official tutorial. She decided that she wanted to do this all by herself! I certainly couldn't help her walk through this one because I still don't know how to make this bracelet! This is her thang! LOL

It was fun directing the video though......she's truly a star in the making!

Items Needed:

Loon Bands
2 Pencils or Pens
Charms (optional)
Tape Measure

Before you begin, measure your wrist (for bracelet) and/or finger (for ring) so that you will know how long to make the bracelet/ring. You don't want it to be too small (tight) or too big (loose).

1. Place pencils side by side.
2. Add 2 loon bands to both of the pencils. See picture below.

Brown Girls Hair

3. Take the band on the bottom of the left pencil and wrap it around the left pencil to the middle.
4. Take the band on the bottom of the right pencil and wrap it around the right pencil to the middle.
5. Add one rubber band and repeat steps 3 & 4.
6. Repeat step 5 until the bracelet is the size of your desire.
7. Add closure that is included in the loon band package.

ALL Done!!

Do the same steps for a ring!

You can find more fun loon patterns HERE!

Mixtina Shampoo & Conditioner Product Review

Side Note** The 2 products used for this review were sponsored by Mixtina. However, this is my honest review. I have not been paid or compensated in anyway to do this post/review other than 2 free 8oz bottles of product to try. Trust me, 2 free bottles isn't worth lying for.......I'd rather not post anything than lie.

Mixtina Product Review

Mixtina was started by a Mom who was having problems finding a product that would not leave her mixed raced (African American/Greek/Irish) daughters curls limp and stripped it of it's natural oils.

Mixtina was created to help mixed, biracial, or multiculturals (which ever title you prefer), have a product that caters to your coily, curly, hair type. It also great for natural African Americans as well as all other hair types.

They currently have 4 products in the line: Wavy Curl Shampoo & Conditioner and Coily Curl Shampoo & Conditioner. The products are All Natural and Sulfate Free. They all come in 8 oz bottles and are $11.99 each.

We used the Coily Curl Shampoo & Conditioner and this is our Review!

Mixtina Coily Curl Shampoo

What does it smell like?

It has a soft clean fragrance. It's almost hard for me to describe it. It reminds me of a soft male perfume type smell.

Did it clean her hair?

Yes! Because it is sulfate free, I thought it wouldn't have much lather, but I was very surprised at how much lather it has. I know that sulfate free shampoo's are so much better, but I find it hard to use them because I still have to get my psychic right when it comes to lather and cleanliness.

I know that later doesn't equal clean, but I tend to have a hard time reprogramming myself. I love me some bubbles! LOL

How did it leave her hair feeling?

It left her hair feeling very clean and it didn't strip it to the point where it was dry and brittle.

Coily Curl Conditioner

What does it smell like?

It smells just like the shampoo.

Did it have good slippage for detangling?

This leave in offered a very good amount of slippage for detangling. This conditioner can be used as a leave in or rinse out.  I wasn't sure prior to using it if I would leave it in or rinse it out. I made my decision after seeing how her hair reacted to the product.

I decided to leave it in because her hair felt ok with it and it wasn't sticky or icky feeling. I choose to blow dry her hair after leaving the conditioner in.

How did it leave her hair feeling?

It left her hair feeling slightly soft and lightly moisturized and it had an awesome shine! After leaving it in overnight, I did find that her hair needed additional moisturizer on it to keep it from being dry. Overall, this product did a great job.

Brown Girls Hair

Would I Recommend Mixtina to others?

Yes I would. I think Mixtina is a great product for anyone with a hard to tame hair type. It's the best sulfate free shampoo that I have used to date. Although my daughter isn't biracial,  I like it way better than the other biracial products that I have tried. I would recommend it to anyone who is in search of a All natural, sulfate free product line that gets the job done.

You can purchase Mixtina on there website HERE!

Swim Natural Hair Care

swim hair care, summer, natural hair care, girls, hairstyles, women, black, biracial hair
Brown Girls Hair

Summer Swim Natural Hair Care

Items Needed:
Cowash/Conditioner
Leave In Conditioner or/and Moisturizer
Gel (optional)

I suggest if your child will be swimming daily or weekly to co wash instead of shampooing after each swim. Co washing is when you wash the hair with conditioner instead of shampoo. Shampoo it as needed verses everyday.

Shampoo strips the hair of everything. If your child isn't swimming often, shampooing after each swim along with conditioning and moisturizing is fine.

After co washing, I add some leave in conditioner, then I smooth down her edges with gel. You can add moisturizer in addition to the leave in if your child has very dry hair.

This is a very simple way to keep your child's hair clean and moisturized during the fun filled summer months.

Yes, I said this is how her hair will be for the remainder of her summer break because she goes back to school on August 1, which I know is super early!

I decided to braid it up because we will be going to the beach soon and I ain't doing no hair! I will record how I maintain her hair after summing etc because I get that question a lot. So stay tuned for the hairstyle tutorial and the summer swim hair maintenance video's coming soon! This hairstyle took me about 5 hours to do.

The outfit is by Apple's Eye Designs and I purchased the shoes from a local Burlington for only $5.99!

Side Cornrows Tutorial on Natural Girl

children, cornrows, natural hairstyles for girls, blog, tutorial, braids for girls, black women haircare
Brown Girls Hair

This is a cute and super easy style that will last for at least a week!

First make a cornrow around her edges. I like to do this to keep her edges neat. This step is optional.

Next make a slanted part and cornrow the hair to the edge and stop. I put a hair clip on to keep the cornrow from unraveling.

Repeat the step above all the way down.

Last take the remaining hair and cornrow it down to the end!

That's it! A quick and simple style that you can repeat all summer long!

Twists~Styled Wet & Air Dried

twists, braids, cornrows, kids braids, natural hairstyles, women, girls, tutorials
Brown Girls Hair

This is another twists style that I did on her hair while it was wet then I let it air dry. I washed and conditioned her hair with TRESemme' shampoo & conditioner. I used As I Am Twist Defining Cream to style her hair.

This style was done 2 weeks before the wedding. You can read that post HERE.

I choose to do it because I knew that I was going to use heat on her hair for the wedding and I didn't want to use any heat on it at the time of this style.

This style was done on June 1, 2014. The wedding was on June 15, 2014.

You see a more detailed video on How I do Twist HERE and How I Maintain them HERE.

What products do you use to do your daughter's twists?

Product Review & Giveaway: Lilla Rose ; Sweet Hairlooms

Misty of Lilla Rose sent me some of the most luxurious hair accessories that I have ever seen! They are adorable and that is an understatement!

The Lilla Rose product line centers around unique, functional, and well made hair jewelry. The jewelry line includes flexi hair clips, hair sticks, orings, hairbands, and bobby pins. They also have eyeglass holders, badge holders, necklaces, and earrings!

We've had the pleasure of trying The Flexi Hair Clip & The Headband.

The Flexi Hair Clip comes in seven sizes to accommodate different hair types and styles. Depending on the amount and type of hair, you might use a small for a ponytail, but a large for a french twist!

The flexi hair clips are very easy to use. You simply open the clip, gather the hair, then slide the hair between the opened clip, and close the clip. See the video below for demonstration.

These clips are perfect for all occasions; church, weddings, and even everyday wear! You can use them as ponytail holders, or as hair jewelry to add flare to your hairstyle!

These are great for little Girls, Tweens, Teens, Moms, Grandma's etc. You get the point!

We were given 4 out of the 7 sizes to try! Check out the video below to see how they look in my hair!

The Headband

This is our favorite because not only can it be worn around the head to hold the hair down, it can also be worn across the forehead for ultimate fashion style!

It is made with the cutest beads and has an adjustable strap to fit heads of all sizes! It comes in several different colors!

Flexi Rod Set on Natural Girl

flexi rod set natural hairstyles black hair women girls
Brown Girls Hair

This is the hair style that I put her hair in after taking down her box braids. I took them out over a period of 3 days (weekend). I started taking them down on Friday night for about 2 hours. I started in the rear and worked my way to the top.  Then on Saturday night I did about 3 hours and Sunday it took an additional 2 hours or so. Why it took longer for me to take them out than it took for my good friend to put them in is beyond me! LOL!

On Sunday after 2 hours of taking braids down, I washed, deep conditioned, finger detangled (while the conditioner was in) and wide tooth comb detangled (after conditioner was rinsed out). Then I did a Flexi Rod Set on Brown Girls Hair. I didn't show the results in the video because it got really late and her hair still wasn't dry so she ended up sleeping with some of the rods in the back of her head : (! She said she slept good. I made sure her sides were dry before bed because I know that she sleeps on her sides and not on her back.

This style lasted for 2 weeks...well she's still wearing it this week. I just keep it moisturized and put it in one or 2 pony tails.

I decided to add water to the lotta body because I wanted her hair to have hold, but still be soft and not hard. That made it easy for me to brush (not comb) her hair into the ponytails.
