Andis Ceramic Ionic Styler Hair Dryer Review

How to, Blow Dry, Natural, Black, Girls, Women, Hair, Andis
Brown Girls Hair

This is my opinion of the Andis Ceramic Ionic Styler Hair Dryer. I purchased mine at Walmart, but I noticed when I googled it, Target has it for $15.79!! HERE! They have free shipping going on now for Christmas so snatch it up NOW!!

I really like this blow dryer. It comes with 3 attachments, a cool button, and 3 settings (high, medium, low). It has 2 speed settings! The high setting really gets hot and the medium (warm) setting is perfect for my daughters hair!

If you are in the market for a good functional hair dryer that doesn't break the bank, I recommend this one.

I haven't blow dried my daughters hair since August 2014. I plan to blow it out the first of 2015 for her trim, then I think we will go back to no heat for a while!

**This is NOT a sponsored post or review. I purchased this with my own money!!

Natural Hair Updo

Here's another cute, quick, & easy updo. This style is great for all ages! It's perfect for church, weddings, school, and every event in between!

Supplies Needed:
(2) Goody Ponytail Holders
Moisturizer (I used Kera Care Conditioning Cream)
Smoothing Gel (I used Eco Styling Gel)
Brush (I used the Knot Genie)
Pin Tale Comb

A Che's hair was slightly stretched for this hairstyle. This style was done after the Knot Genie Review video. I washed, conditioned, and detangled her hair. Then I put it in 4 ponytails, twisted, and let her hair air dry.
  1. Part hair from ear to ear.
  2. Make 2 angle parts from the front to the part in the middle. *Use the edge of her eyes as your guide to make the parts.*
  3. Cornrow,Twist, or Dutch braid (whichever you choose) the left and right sections.
  4. Put all 3 front sections in a ponytail. Split the ponytail into 2 sections and twist each section.
  5. Brush the back section up into a high ponytail close to the front ponytail. Split the ponytail into 2 sections and twist each section.
  6. Take the plaits from the rear ponytail and wrap them around the top ponytail and tuck the ends inside of the ponytail holder.
  7. Take the plaits from the top ponytail and wrap them around the rear ponytail and tuck the ends inside of the ponytail holder.
Tip: You can use hair pins to hold her hair in place if needed. You also may need to play around with the ponytails to get the look that you want!

For short hair you can use perm rods on the ponytails or do a cute straw set on them OR just rock 2 big afro puffs!

The Knot Genie Review

*PLEASE NOTE*Although this post is sponsored, ALL opinions are my own.

www.KnotGenie.com

I have found the perfect product to add to our detangling process. If you are looking for an aide to your detangling process, look no further. The Knot Genie is available for you to try!

First here's a little history, The Knot Genie was created by Rikki Mor, Mom to 3 daughters. Through her frustration of fighting with her daughters while trying to detangle their hair, she searched high and low to find a brush or something that would help make hair time easier. After coming up empty handed, The Knot Genie was born.

The Original Knot Genie

What makes the Knot Genie different? It has varying lengths of teeth on the brush. While brushing, the bristles gently bend to unravel even the most stubborn knots. This brush has a unique cloud shape to fit the palm of the had which makes it a more comfortable hair brushing experience.

The original Knot Genie is shaped like a cloud and they have added 2 more brushes to the family. The Teeny Genie (a travel size Knot Genie) and a Genie Supreme (a Knot Genie with a handle).

The Teeny & Original Knot Genies

I have put all of these brushes to the test and here's what I found:

They ALL REALLY DO WORK! No fluff, No exaggeration, No lie!

The Knot Genie ($14.99-$19.99) is the large original version of the brush. I easily brushed through LARGE sections of hair at one time. It was very easy to hold and caused no pain while it detanlged her hair. See Video Below.

The teeny genie Knot Genie ($14.99) is a smaller version of the original Knot Genie. It's easier to use on small sections of hair or on a toddlers head. It's also the perfect size for travel.

The Supreme Genie ($22.99) is just like the other 2 except it has a handle. The brush is about the size of the teeny genie. I found this one very easy to use as well. This is the one that I used on my hair.

The Supreme Genie

I was genuinely surprised at how these brushes work. There were very few hair strands lost during the detangling process with them. (I have never detangled without losing a strand or two. I think that is normal.)

The process was PAINLESS for me and my tender headed child. These brushes also decreased the amount of time that it took me to detangle both of our heads of hair, especially my daughters.

I also used this brush on her scalp while I washed her hair and it helped clean her scalp.

There are not many products that I endorse, but I really do recommend this brush for anyone who is currently having a hard time with the detangling process. I am still in Ahhh at how they work.

You can get $7 OFF any Knot Genie brush with Coupon Code BGH7. Good NOW-December 31, 2014! Get yours TODAY! That means you can try the original genie with this coupon code for only $7.99+shipping. Purchase it HERE. I promise you will not be disappointed.

Banding Hairstyle Tutorial

banding, natural, girls, hair, stretch, no heat, straightening, black hair
Natural Hair Banding

This tutorial shows how to use the banding method as a hairstyle.

Supplies Needed:
Freshly Washed Wet Hair
Goody Ponytail Holders
Wide Tooth Comb
Moisturizer of your choice. I used Kera Care Products.

1. Start at the rear of her head. Make a straight part from below her ear across to the other ear.
2. Take the middle part of the bottom section and make 4 squares and banded each.
3. Make a straight part down the right side of her head.
4. Make a square section, put a band on it and let the ponytail hang.
5. Make another square behind it, added the ponytail from the previous square, and added the band.
6. Repeat steps 4-5 until you get to the rear of her head.
7. Start at step 3 for the next section and continue until you have finished her entire head.

You can be creative with the parts. You don't have to do them straight back. Use your imagination and have fun with it!

Banding Method {Stretch Natural Hair Without Heat}

banding, natural, hair, stretch,no heat, black, biracial, hair care,
Banding Natural Hair

What is banding?

It's a way to stretch the hair without using heat. (blow dryer, flat iron, pressing comb etc.)

What is needed?

Freshly washed, conditioned, and detangled hair.
Wide Tooth Comb
Goody Ponytail Holders
Leave In Conditioner (optional)
Moisturizer
Patience

*Tips for banding*

You don't have to make perfect parts unless you are doing this as a style.
The more sections you do, the less time it will take the hair to dry. Especially thick, course, hair.
The closer you put the bands to each other, the straighter the strands will be.
I put mine 1/2 inch to 1 inch apart.

I used All KeraCare products in this video. They are listed below. So far, I've found this set of products to work best when styling my daughters hair while it's wet. A product Review is coming soon! KeraCare is my NEW favorite!

KeraCare 1st Later Sulfate Free Shampoo
KeraCare Leave In Conditioner
KeraCare Conditioning Creme Hairdress
KeraCare Overnight Moisturizing Treatment (on her ends at night)

Banding, Does it really work?

how to stretch natural hair without using heat

For many years I was very hesitant about trying the banding method on my daughters hair. You may ask, Why wouldn't you want to try something that may be better for your daughters hair then using heat?

For those of you who maybe asking, What is banding? It's a way to stretch the hair without using heat. You put the hair in sections and put goody ponytail holders on each section from the base to the ends leaving an inch or so between each band. See Video Tutorial HERE.

I stayed away from banding all the way up til now!!! The reason is because her hair was so hard to manage while wet. I would detangle one section only to find that when I was done, her coils would curl right back up and be tangled again. And if it dried in that state, there was nothing I could do but wet it again and start all over....very frustrating to say the least.

When I would style her hair wet and put twist in, the style last a long time but when I unravel the twists, I still couldn't comb it. I would have to wash her hair to style it again. Not to say that I wouldn't wash her hair anyway, the point is ,when her hair is styled wet and dries, it's impossible to comb it. During the drying process, her hair curls up causing it to be tangled.

The twist out below results are cute, but I can't comb them!

Because of this, I didn't even want to try banding.

Through out my journey of learning how to deal with my daughters long, thick, uncooperative hair (so I thought). I found what my long time hairstylist told me years ago to be true. Products make all of the difference in the world when dealing with hair.

I found the hardest part in this journey of natural hair is finding the products that WORK for my daughters hair. This has been THE PROBLEM and THE CHALLENGE. Not her hair, not the methods, but THE PRODUCTS.

I find that every time I use a New product, it will either help or hinder what I'm trying to do.

With all of that being said, KeraCare products makes styling my daughters hair while wet a breeze. That's what I used to band her hair for the first time and I must say her hair remained soft and easy to deal with the next day.

On the other hand, when I did banding as a style, using KeraCare products, I still was not able to easily comb through her hair after removing the bands. Maybe it's because I left them in too long (a week).

My take is banding works when you use the right products for your child's hair AND find the happy median between her hair being wet, damp, or dry when styling.

For my daughter's hair, it's easier to style after banding when it's damp and partly stretched than when it is completely dry. Her hair is much harder to deal with completely dry after banding. Her being tender headed may play a huge factor in this too because even the smallest amount of pulling hurts her.

Because I have only done this twice, I am going to try it a few more times to see if I get better results. Do you have any suggestions for me? What works for you?

Triangles & Ponytails Natural Hair Tutorial

natural hairstyles for little black girls
Brown Girls Hair

This hairstyle looks way harder than what it is! This is very easy to do if you follow my video tutorial of it! There are so many different ways you can go with parting the hair from using this as your base.

*Parting Tips*

Use her facial features as your guide. (eyes, nose, ears, etc)
Use a Pin Tale comb to get your parts straight.
Take your time & be patient.

Hair Accessories Used: The Bead Barrette

Always remember you may not get it perfect the first time, but keep trying. The more you style her hair the better you become each try. Trust me, that's how I've come as far as I have. I'm not perfect either, I just do my best and roll with it!

Thanks to Dana and Skylar for allowing me to play in your hair and post it for other Brown Girls to enjoy!

My VoxBox from Influenster/Product Review

Hi Girlies,

I just want to share with you a cool site that I found to be very cool. It is called Influenster. They select people to review complimentary products. It's a pretty cool way to read and write reviews on products, stores, etc. that you have tried or are interested in trying. If you are a huge social media user and you like to review/test new products, you should check it out!

There is no guarantee that you will be chosen to receive a voxbox, but it's worth a try! I did!

I came across it on Instagram and thought that I would give it a try. I received my first voxbox on today of Degree MOTIONsense invisible deodorant to try. I was very excited about trying it because I use Degree everyday.

So far I'm loving it and I'll update this post in a few days to let you know if the 48 hour new improved protection really works!

Note: "I received this product complimentary from Influenster for testing purposes."

You can purchase this now at Walmart! #DoMore

To learn more about Influenster and how it works, check out the site and like their Facebook page.

Note: "I received this product complimentary from Influenster for testing purposes."

UPDATE September 24, 2014: PRODUCT REVIEW

I've been using the new Degree MotionSENSE deodorant for a little over a week and I am very pleased with it.

The fragrance that I have is Fresh Energy. It smells very good. It's a clean fresh smell. It rolls on smoothly. After it sets, it is mostly clear. I do have a few white lines in the crease areas where I put more product. But if I rub it in, it goes away and you can't see the deodorant.

It keeps my underarms dry and fresh the entire time I wear it. I've been outside at my son's high school football games, I've been outside at my daughter's little league (cheerleader) football games in the scorching heat and It has keep my underarms smelling fresh in spite of my heavy sweating.

I have put this deodorant to the test and I am pleased with it. It will be my deodorant of choice from now on!

Let's Support Jenell & The Babies *March of Dimes*

Jenell Stewart of Kinky Curly Coily Me

Hi Brown Girls,

This post is a call to action for all of you Mom's, who some I know, will be able to relate to this cause. Jenell Stewart of Kinky Curly Coily Me sent me a heart felt e-mail about how both of her pregnancies were "high risk" and how she had to go on bed rest immediately halfway through her last pregnancy and through most of her first pregnancy.

Thankfully both of her babies were born healthy, but that's not the case for all mothers. Everyday thousands of babies are born too soon, too small, and often very sick. Jenell is walking in March for babies because she wants to do something about this. She needs our help!

I am thankful that all of my children were born healthy and I want to do what I can to help. I decided to give a donation to help Jenell reach her goal of $5,000. I also decided to post this with the hope that you can and will help too!

No donation is too small. If you can't give but you have a social media following, please share this with your followers to help spread the word to help Jenell exceed her goal and most importantly help the BABIES.

You can give HERE!

Aren't her little ones Gorgeous!!

You can get more information on March of Dimes HERE.
