Her Body is Changing and So is Her Hair.......

Brown Girls Hair

My daughter will be 9 next month and her body has changed a lot over the past year. Not only did I have to start buying her training bra's (Lord help us), she has grown from a size 8 to a size 14 in 9 months. With the fast changes of her body, her hair has changed too.

I'm back to the stage of figuring out her hair again. It constantly stays dry....no matter what I do. I moisturize, I seal, I co-wash.....what the heck is going on??? Her hair growth has slowed down too. Now I'm back to the drawing board of trying to figure out what's going to work for this new stage that her hair is in.

I'm an totally up for suggestions and ideas especially if you have or have had a daughter to go through a similar phase.

Back to the drawing board...........I need help!!

  3. Oooh my, quite the growth beautiful Brown Girl! My daughter is 6 and went through this spurt from 4-5. She is 'thick'/stocky and is already 4' 1", wearing sizes 8-10. She was born with a little 'extra' in the chest area that I was told would disappear in the first year. Not so. We have to avoid slim cut shirts, or go up a size to ensure there isn't an inappropriate 'look'. Goodness gracious. I'm sure she'll be in a training bra by 8. So, I understand what you're going through there. We've always had trouble with her hair getting dry and I've found that I can combat that by washing it once a week. We layer an oil mix (usually grapeseed, EVOO and coconut oil) on her wet hair, use Shea Moisture Restorative Conditioner OR Bee Mine Luscious and sometimes seal that all in with a little shea (if she had a really dry week or if we skipped a week). We also try to DC each week or do a hot oil treatment. Good luck!

    1. Thanks so much Nicole! I am going to wash her hair this weekend and I will try a hot oil treatment and dc. Hopefully that will work better than what we've been doing.

  6. I have 3 daughters, one your daughter's age, and know all too well what you're going! I was adopting a regimen similar to yours and then I noticed that my nine-year-old's and seven-year-old's hair growth stalled. I hadn't changed my regimen yet I would notice fours months going by and no growth. Then I started wearing braided hair extensions in my own hair b/c of swimming. Then, I had a light bulb moment. My girls take swimming lessons, so why not get braid extensions in their hair? Now, due mostly to the hair extensions their hair definitely retains length faster. The braids keep my hands out of their hair, getting ready for school is faster, I leave their hair alone for two months at a time. I let them wear their own hair for special occasions. I know naturals preach against weaves and extensions but you do what's best for you.

    1. I'm so glad you found a solution for your girls! I'm not a fan of extensions, but I don't bash anyone if that's what works for them:)!
